Tiffin University's men's wrestling team split a pair of duals in their season opener, falling to 11th-ranked Indianapolis 26-18 after defeating Davenport 27-20.

In the opening match, TU got wins in their first two matches. Branden Mendoza (125) picked up a fall in 3:56 to get the Dragons off on a strong footing, while Bryce Allison (133) followed with another pin in 4:42.

Davenport then won a pair to bring the score to 12-8, Dragons. Ashten Moody (141) fell via tech fall 19-2, while Dylan Mansor (149) lost a close 5-0 decision. 

Tiffin bounced back with two wins. Collin Adkins (157) took a 9-4 decision, and was followed by Bryan LaVearn (165) with a strong pin in 4:42. Tiffin's final win on the day came from Nicholas Mason (197), who registered TU's fourth pin of the day in 1:12.

Nicolas Smythe (184) fell in a narrow 4-0 decision, while David Henson (285) also had a tough luck 3-1 setback. Zachary Bierfeldt (174) also lost via injury.

Against the Greyhounds, the Dragons again got off to a good start with wins in their first two matches. Mendoza picked up a tech fall 18-0 win while Allison had a major decision 15-7 victory.

UIndy then bounced back to win six consecutive weight classes to put the dual away. Mansor fell 7-0, LaVearn lost a razor thin 3-2 decision, Moody fell via pin in 44 seconds, and TU suffered two major decision losses from Adkins 15-5 and Smythe 11-0. 

Mason broke the streak with a battle ending in a victory by fall in 5:15, while Henson closed out the dual with a close 4-1 win.
