Dragons sport 5 placers at Findlay Open

Tiffin University's wrestling program had five individuals place including a champion at the Findlay Open.

Tops on the day was Bryan LaVearn at 157 pounds, who won five straight matches to take the top spot. He had opening decisions against West Liberty 14-10, Indianapolis 11-5, and Findlay 3-1. He then pinned Mercyhurst in 5:26 before taking first with a slim 5-4 score over Ohio University.

Also doing well was 197 pound Nick Mason, who finished third. Mason posted wins over Bellarmine in 3:35 and Notre Dame 5-1. He followed a 11-5 loss to West Liberty with a win in the third place match over Seton Hill in 6:02.

Derek Gross (165) was 4th, opening with a win by fall over Notre Dame in 6:35 and notching decisions over Kent State 4-2 and Indianapolis 12-6. He then dropped his last two matches to Indianapolis 7-2 and Findlay in sudden victory 3-1.

Hayden Bronne (174) was 5th. He had four wins on the day, all via pin. He pinned West Liberty in 1:01, Mercyhurst in 3:18, Seton Hill in 16 seconds, and Lake Erie in 2:04. He fell in his last match of the day to Findlay in 43 seconds.

Raymond Adams III was 8th overall. He posted decisions over Lake Erie 12-4, Michigan State 8-7, and Findlay in sudden victory 4-2. He fell in his final match to Seton Hill in 1:28.

Dylan Mansor (149) also had four wins, shutting out West Liberty 16-0 and then recording three straight pins over Ashland (4:11), Edinboro (1:35), and Seton Hill (2:29).

Other winners were Garrett Wilson (149) over Midway 14-3, Midway in 4:26, and unattached in 2:58; Christopher Donathan (157) over Edinboro 10-7, West Liberty 14-5, and Bellarmine 14-2; Matthew Zuckerman (141) over Seton Hill 4-3 and West Liberty via tiebreaker 7-5; Cameron Dickman (125) over Seton Hill in 1:06 and Kent State 14-5; Rico Puente (133) over Indianapolis 15-9; and Nicholas Smythe (184) over Findlay in 2:54.
