Dragons compete at Michigan State Open in season opener

Tiffin University opened their 2019-20 season at the Division I Michigan State Open.

The Open featured 28 teams with top Division I talent facing off against the Dragons in the Open division and the Freshman/Sophomore division.

Derek Gross (165) opened with a bye and a forfeit win over Ohio University before falling in the quarterfinals to Michigan by fall in 2:03. He then lost to Cal Poly by fall in 4:03.

Bryan LaVearn (157) also had some tough matches, as he picked up an opening win against Central Michigan 10-6. He then fell to Ohio State 8-5 and Michigan State 9-7.

Hunter Langeloh (157) also dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Northern Illinois.

Nick Mason (197) had two hard fought losses to Illinois 16-2 and Pitt 7-2.

In the Freshman/Sophomore division, Ashten Moody (149) had two byes and a win by fall over Olivet in 2:39 before falling to Indiana in the fourth consolation round by fall in 2:07.

Mathew Zuckerman (141) also posted a win over Findlay 9-1.
