Tiffin University opened with two dominant wins at home in the Heminger Center, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 53-0 and Alderson Broaddus 47-6 on the first day of the G-MAC Duals.
The Dragons opened round one with a 53-0 shutout of Kentucky Wesleyan. The Dragons won four weight classes by fall, with Giuseppe Penzone (125) flattening LaMont Wilson in 5:20, Dylan Mansor (141) making quick work of Caleb Craig in 1:58, and Trey Grine (149) making even quicker work of James Loi in 50 seconds.
Rico Puente (133) posted a tech fall win over Andrew Parker 19-4, while Richard Screptock got his pin at 165 over Kohana Wilks in 1:03. Bryan LaVearn (174) got a 3-2 decision over Angelo Talabert, while Chase Carter (285) also won a close 6-4 decision over Kairus Washington. Beau Minnick (157), Hayden Bronne (184), and Nick Mason (197) all got forfeit victories.
Against the Battlers, things started well as Penzone buzzed through Brantley Guckert in 27 seconds. After Puente fell to Curtis Cox 23-13, the Dragons won four straight matches, three of them by pin.
Mansor flattened Paul Steger in 49 seconds, Beau Minnick got a fall victory against Cam Ritchey in 4:54, and Screptock pinned Nick Sulhoff in 2:09. Trey Grine was the exception in the four-match streak, winning over Levi Hobbs via tech fall 16-0.
Bryan LaVearn lost a close 3-1 decision t Gino Sita, but TU continued its powerhouse ways with three pins to close out the match. Bronne beat Penzone's time by beating Mert Gulen in 26 ticks, Nick Mason pinned Josh Dailey in 2:14, and Chase Carter planted Jared Burgoyne in 3:47.
TU will now take on Lake Erie at 12 pm followed by Findlay at 2 pm with the G-MAC title on the line.
