Mason takes 1st at Findlay Open

Nick Mason was the top placer at the Findlay Open, taking first at 197 pounds to lead Tiffin University's men's wrestling squad.

Mason flattened his way through the first three rounds, pinning Indianapolis in 3:31, Midway in 2:17, and Gannon in 1:51. He then defeated West Liberty via injury default in 3:29 before taking the title by forfeit over Notre Dame.

Hayden Bronne was fifth overall at 184 pounds, suffering just one loss 9-3 against Notre Dame. He opened with a pin over Indiana Tech in 1:55, then pinned Defiance in 1:58 and West Liberty in 30 seconds. He then was awarded two forfeit victories over Ashland and Notre Dame.

The only other placer on the day was Beau Minnick at 157 pounds. He only lost twice in two overtime decisions, 6-5 to Ashland and 7-5 to Findlay. He posted a 4-1 win over Bellarmine, a pin over Indianapolis in 5:19, and a win over Bryan LaVearn of Tiffin 5-3.

LaVearn also had some nice wins, beating Cleveland State 9-2, Ashland 6-5, and winning by fall in 1:26 over Ohio Northern and in 5:00 over Gannon.

Other multiple winners for TU included Derek Gross at 157 (15-5 over Gannon, 6-5 over Ashland), Zach Bierfeldt at 165 (16-1 over Bellarmine, 13-8 over Gannon), Richard Screptock at 165 (pin in 2:49 over Mercyhurst, 4-1 over Gannon), and Chase Carter at 285 (11-1 over Bellarmine, pin in 6:01 over Midway, pin in 2:31 over Midway).

Single winners included Giuseppe Penzone at 133 (14-1 over Indiana Tech), Collin Adkins at 141 (11-6 over Gannon), Hunter Langeloh at 141 (17-3 over Gannon), Dylan Mansor at 149 (16-1 over Midway), Kian Thompson at 174 (7-6 over Kent State), and David Henson at 285 (4-1 over Indiana Tech).
