Bronne takes second at Ohio Collegiate Open

Numerous Tiffin University men's wrestlers competed at the Ohio Collegiate Open, with Hayden Bronne taking second at 184 pounds.

Bronne was the highest placer for TU, which competed in both the Gold and White divisions. Bronne led the Gold grapplers, defeating Davenport by pin in 1:12 and outpointing Clarion 7-0 before losing in the championship to Ohio State 1-0.

The other placer in the Gold division was Kian Thompson at 174 pounds, who finished 8th. Thompson had wins over Mercyhurst 3-1 and via pin over Kent State in 49 seconds but also had losses to Central Michigan by pin in 44 seconds and to Clarion in 2:53.

Other Dragons getting wins were Rico Puente (133) 8-6 over Mercyhurst; Hunter Langeloh (141) over Tiffin 7-6 and Notre Dame 3-2; Bryan LaVearn (157) over Central Michigan 7-3; Zach Bierfeldt (165) over Davenport 11-6; Nick Mason (197) over Ohio University 10-3; and Chase Carter (285) over Davenport 3-1.

In the White division, Derek Gross (157) was the top placer, taking 3rd. He earned third after a forfeit by teammate Cameron Gessner, who placed 4th. Gross also had wins over Ohio Wesleyan 13-9 and Otterbein 16-5 before falling to John Carroll 10-3.

Gessner had wins over Ohio Wesleyan by pin in 4:50 and Urbana 4-2 before falling to Central Michigan 6-1 and forfeiting to Gross.

David Henson (285) placed 6th overall, bouncing back from a 3-2 loss to Michigan State to rattle off four wins against Otterbein in 6:47, Akron in 3:21, Case Western 4-2, and John Carroll 3-0. He eventually lost to Kent State 6-4.

Other Dragons getting wins in the White division were Nicholas Smythe (165) over Michigan State 7-5; and Austin Winegarner (285) over Urbana 9-4.
