Dragons hold off Ashland 13-10

Tiffin University (2-11, 2-4 GMAC) built a six-goal lead over Ashland early in the second half and held on to defeat the Eagles 13-10.

TU, which never trailed in the game, broke a 3-3 tie late in the second quarter by scoring three goals to lead 6-3 at halftime. Jenny Bates scored on a free position shot, then assisted Angela Lulejian on another goal at the 1:13 mark. Gabby Wilson then scored a man-up goal off a pass from Daniela Carey to make it 6-3.

TU then scored four of the next five goals to open the third quarter and build a 10-4 lead. Wilson added an unassisted goal, Carey hit a free position shot, and Lulejian tallied two more goals to give the Dragons a six-goal cushion.

Ashland responded by scoring four straight goals to make it 10-8 with 13:48 left in the game. The Eagles could not get closer than two goals down, though, as Carey hit two free position goals and Rylee Sutherland added another to keep TU's lead at three goals.

The Dragons were efficient with their free position shots, going 6-for-7, while Ashland went 0-for-3. 

Carey finished with 4 goals and 2 assists along with 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnoves, while Lulejian had 4 goals and 2 caused turnovers. Sutherland had 2 goals and 2 assists while Wilson had 2 goals and 6 draw controls. Jenny Bates also had a goal and assist.

Jenay Rennie got the win in goal, making 6 saves.
