Four Dragons Named WGCA All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars were announced this morning, with four Tiffin student-athletes receiving recognition in juniors Alice Putoud and Melissa Gabriele, sophomore Emily Koehler, and freshman Amanda Johansson.

A total of 1,097 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious honor across all NCAA and NAIA Divisions, with the criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team being some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, including a minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.50.

With a cumulative GPA of 3.67, Tiffin women's golf had the highest GPA of any progam at TU in the spring of 2019. They did not only excel in the classroom, though, as the Dragons reached the NCAA DII East Super Regional for the second consecutive season, finishing fifth out of 12 teams.

Putoud, Koehler, and Johansson were also named to the GMAC All-Conference team for their outstanding play throughout the season, including Johansson earning GMAC Freshman of the Year honors.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
