Women's Golf Picked Second in GMAC Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS - Tiffin University women's golf has been selected second in the 2019 G-MAC Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour.

The Dragons totalled 91 points and one first-place vote, only trailing Findlay's 100 points and ten first-place votes. Rounding out the top five are Trevecca Nazarene with 80 points, Ohio Dominican with 68 points, and Walsh with 66.

Eleven schools were considered by the league's coaches in the balloting, and a champion will be determined April 19-20 at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Tiffin is not the only newcomer to the pool of teams vying for the championship, as this is also Davis & Elkins' first season as an intercollegiate women's golf program.

Findlay took the team title last season with a two-day score that was well ahead of the competition at 616, including individuals that finished first, two tied for second, and one tied for fourth. The battle for second-place was much tighter, as Trevecca Nazarene (657) edged out Ohio Dominican (667).

The Dragons finished third at the GLIAC Championships a season ago and have their top individual finisher returning in junior Alice Putoud (ninth overall). Putoud had a great start to the 2018-19 year as well, winning two tournaments and leading the team in the fall season with a round average of 77.1. Freshman Amanda Johansson figures to make some noise this spring as well, as she was just behind Putoud during the fall season with a 78.6 round average.

Other returners that competed at the conference championships last year are sophomore Emily Koehler (T-22nd) and junior Melissa Gabriele (T-40th), who recorded average round scores of 81.7 and 83.5, respectively, during the fall. Alexis Savage will round out the varsity squad after the freshman averaged an 83.8 per round in her first semester as a Dragon.
