Watts Records Double-Double, Dragons Fall at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Jasmine Watts notched her fifth career double-double on Thursday night at Cedarville, but Tiffin women's basketball fell to the Yellow Jackets 87-72.

Watts finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, going 5-8 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Aarion Nichols led the Dragons with 18 points, while Jensen Hiegel was also in double-figures with 11 points and a team-leading five assists.

Jada Tate also scored eight points, including a 6-6 mark from the charity stripe, while Brooke Wesner added a pair of triples for six points.

While Cedarville had the edge in shooting from the field, Tiffin had a huge advantage from the free-throw line, going 24-27 (88.9%) while the Yellow Jackets made 10 on 14 attempts.

The Dragons also outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 33-32, including 9-7 on the offensive end. Turnovers were even at 11 apiece, but TU converted those giveaways into 14 points while Cedarville managed 11.

Cedarville started the game hot, shooting 9-13 from the field and 6-7 from the three-point line in the first quarter as they took a 25-13 lead. The second quarter was much of the same, with CU again shooting over 50% and eventually taking a 45-30 lead into halftime.

The Dragons bounced back with a run in the third, however, cutting the deficit to just seven, 61-54, on a pair of free throws from Watts with 2:16 remaining in the period. The comeback was aided in a big way by the charity stripe, as TU went a perfect 16 of 16 in the quarter.

That was as close as Tiffin would come, though, as Cedarville built their lead back up to 15 before the final buzzer, taking the GMAC matchup by a final score of 87-72.

The Dragons will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday when they visit Lake Erie at 3:00 p.m.
