Dragons Defeat Senators, Close 2018-19 With Four-Straight Wins

ELKINS, W.Va. – Tiffin women's basketball led from start to finish and defeated Davis & Elkins 67-60 on Saturday afternoon to close out the 2018-19 campaign.

The Dragons finish the season on a four-game win streak that brings their final record to 11-17 overall and 8-14 in the GMAC, their best conference finish since also going 8-14 during the 2012-13 season.

Tiffin outshot Davis & Elkins 40.7% to 35.2%, and held the Senators to just 6.7% (1-15) from beyond the arc in the game.

Allie Miller led TU with 16 points, followed by Ali Schirmer with 13 points, as the seniors close out their careers having made their marks on the Dragon record books. Miller finished fifth with a three-point percentage of 36.2% and seventh with 132 made triples. Schirmer wraps up her career in third in made three-pointers with 192, seventh in three-point percentage at 35.6%, and first in free throw percentage at a clip of 86.9%.

Jasmine Watts also added six points, seven rebounds, and two blocks to bring her season blocked shots total to 41, seventh in TU history for a single season. Watts also finished her freshman campaign with a 66.9% field goal percentage that is the best in Dragon history.

The Dragons came out strong, jumping to leads of 10-4 and 17-9 before reaching the end of the first quarter with a 19-10 advantage on a buzzer beater from Aarion Nichols.

The Senators responded in the second quarter, holding Tiffin to just nine points and cutting the Dragon lead to 28-25 at halftime.

Allie Miller opened the third quarter with back-to-back triples to extend the Tiffin lead to seven. However, Davis & Elkins came back and tied things up at 47 at the end of the period as Jay Kilpatrick was fouled on a three with one second left and made all three free throws.

Amanda Fire quickly gave Tiffin back the lead with a layup to open the fourth, and the Dragons still led by three, 55-52, with 6:45 left to play.

Five points from Schirmer sandwiched around two Senator free throws would extend the TU lead to six, 60-54, at the final media timeout with just under five minutes remaining.

That run proved to be enough, as the Dragons made their free throws down the stretch and came away with the seven-point victory.
