Dobson Signs With Women's Basketball

Maria Dobson has announced her intention to continue her athletic and academic careers at Tiffin University.

Dobson is a 5'8" guard/forward out of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. So far this year, she is averaging 13 points per game, six rebounds per game, and three steals per game.

She is a three-year varsity letterwinner, and was a member of her high school's 2018 Division II OHSAA Girls Basketball Regional Finalist and District Championship team. Dobson was also given her high school's 2016 Varsity Hustle Award and was named the NEO Youth Elite Christmas Classic MVP.

On why she chose to become a Dragon, Dobson said, "I chose TU because they offer excellent academic programs and small class sizes that will provide me with a more personalized educational experience. I also loved the campus and felt like it would be a perfect fit for me. I was very impressed with the basketball program and can't wait to be a part of this team and family."

Academically, Dobson intends to major in Exercise Science. In high school, she has been a Student Ambassador and a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Honor Roll.

"Maria is the epitome of hardworking, grit and desire," said Carley Whitney, Dobson's high school coach. "We have been so blessed to have her a part of our girl's basketball family at St. Vincent-St. Mary HS. Maria is one of the best kids I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. She is more than ready for the next step in college. We are so excited for her and to see her play for the Tiffin Dragons. Tiffin – you got a good one!"

"Maria is a tremendous competitor, hard worker, and a great teammate," said Brian Bruce, her AAU coach. "She is willing to do whatever is asked of her and takes as much pride on the defensive end of the floor as she does the offensive. Tiffin University and the women's basketball program will be proud to have Maria representing them on and off the court."
