Dragons Battle with Toledo in Exhibition

TOLEDO, Ohio – Tiffin women's basketball was able to hang with Division I University of Toledo in the early going on Sunday afternoon, trailing by just two after the first quarter, but the Rockets were able to pull away and take a 75-41 victory.

With the contest counting as an exhibition for the Dragons, it will not go against their overall record, but was a great tune-up for the second half of conference play that will begin Thursday at Walsh.

Sarah Cummings got TU on the board just over a minute in with a jumper that tied things at two. Midway through the opening quarter, Toledo had opened up a 10-5 lead, but Mary Redmond nailed a triple that cut the deficit to two.

The Rocket lead extended back up to five late in the period, but another three from Redmond with 18 seconds left in the frame sent the Dragons into the second quarter trailing by just a pair, 17-15.

Toledo began to pull away just before halftime, however, taking a 13-point advantage, 36-23, into the break.

The third and fourth periods went much like the second, as Toledo was able to use their size to their advantage and take the victory.

The Rockets outrebounded the Dragons 54-25 and were able to rack up 52 points in the paint compared to 26 for Tiffin, but TU was able to hold Toledo to just 20% (3-15) shooting from beyond the arc and turned the home team over 18 times.

Redmond led the Dragon effort with eight points, while Aarion Nichols added seven off the bench as well as a career-high 11 rebounds.
