Hot-Shooting Panthers Take Down Dragons

TIFFIN, Ohio - After taking a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Tiffin women's basketball fell victim to the red-hot three-point shooting of Kentucky Wesleyan College as the Panthers rallied to earn an 82-65 victory. 

In the second and third quarters combined, KWC outscored the Dragons 52-24. For the game, the Panthers shot 53.8% (14-26) from deep.

With the loss, the Dragons drop to 0-3 in the G-MAC and 2-6 overall.

Kentucky Wesleyan raced out to a 9-4 lead at the 6:39 mark of the opening quarter, but Tiffin rallied with eight straight points to go up 12-9 on a pair of free throws from Ali Schirmer with 3:10 left in the period. After a bucket for the Panthers, Allie Miller drained a triple and Schirmer converted a layup just before the end of the quarter to give TU a 17-11 lead. 

The run continued early in the second period, as a Miller three extended the Dragon lead to 24-11 with 7:42 left in the half. However, KWC would go on a 23-7 run to go into the break with a 34-31 lead over Tiffin.

The third quarter was all Panthers, as KWC outscored Tiffin 29-10, including draining 8-11 (72.7%) from downtown and 10-16 (62.5%) overall in the period. 

Tiffin went on a small run late in the game, but it was not nearly enough as KWC took the 17-point victory.

Allie Miller and Annie Santucci each had 18 points to lead the Dragons, with Miller nearly having a triple-double as she also recorded eight rebounds and a career-high six steals.
