Ivey completes women's basketball coaching staff

Tiffin Univesity Head Women's Basketball Coach Jessie Ivey has announced the completion of her coaching staff for the 2018-19 season.

Miriam Justinger and Jason Hosinski will help Ivey during the season, with both coaches bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the sideline.

Justinger was selected in 2016 to be part of WBCA's "So you want to be a coach program." She followed that up with serving as part of the coaching staff at Seton Hill University for the last two seasons. She helped lead the Griffins to one of their best year's in program history in 2017-18, as they posted a 20 win season and made it into the 2nd round play of the PSAC tournament. She also helped the Griffins to impressive performances in the classroom by helping the team to their fourth consecutive season in the Top 25 WBCA Academic honors. 
 
Justinger, a Carlisle, Pennsylvania native, graduated from Bowling Green with a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Gerontology. She finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.59, earning Dean's List honors over her final three seasons. Her playing career was noteworthy. She was a four year starter, finishing her career with 1,027 points and tying for 25th on the school's career scoring list. She also posted career totals of 460 rebounds, 267 assists, 130 steals and 114 three-pointers made. She had career marks of 37.9% field goal percentage, scored 114 triples with a 32.5 percentage, averaged 3.7 Rebounds/G and 2.1 Asists/G. She was the team's Most Improved player her freshman year, helping the Falcons to reach the third round WNIT in post season play and a overall season record of 24-11. She was part of a regular season MAC conference champion team, posting a 30-5 record and reaching the quarterfinals of the WNIT. She earned All-MAC Team honors as well as being voted Team's Playmaker of the year and Impact Player of the Year her Junior and Senior Seasons. She was selected to the Academic All-MAC Team in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and earned the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete award in the 2015-16 season. 

Her collegiate career was an extension of the success she had in high school at Sylvania Northview High School. She earned three letters playing for coach Jerry Sigler and was a First-Team All-Ohio selection as a senior, averaging 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists as the LadyKats went 21-2 and posted a district runner-up finish. She led the Northern Lakes League in scoring in that senior campaign and was also the District I Player of the Year in 2011-12. She helped Northview to NLL championships in each of her last three years. A third-team all-state selection in her junior season, she also was a three-time All-NLL First-Team choice and averaged 16.5 ppg as a junior and 11.9 ppg as a sophomore, leading to sectional titles in both seasons. The LadyKats went 57-8 in her final three years at the school. She is a two-time team MVP, the District 7 Player of the Year as a senior, and finished her high-school career with 1,109 points while earning three selections to the All-(Toledo) Blade Team. 

"I am so excited about the addition of Miriam and Jason to our staff.  Miriam was an excellent player in the state of Ohio. She scored over 1,000 points both in high school and at BG. She had a great mentor under Seton Hill Head Coach Mark Katarski and comes with an extensive background of what it takes to win. She is a proven winner both on and off the court and will be an integral part of building champions here at TU," said Ivey.

Hosinski, meanwhile, comes from Sylvania, Ohio where he attended Sylvania Northview High School. He attended Bowling Green State University, where he graduated with honors and earned his Bachelors of Science in Sport Management.

While he was at Bowling Green State University, Jason worked closely with the Women's basketball team for four years as the Head Student Manager. Some of his duties would include setting up for practices, filming games, and statistical analysis.

Jason comes with coaching experience, as he is coming from a local AAU team, Toledo Elite. Jason worked for Toledo Elite for 5 years. He coached multiple teams for the program covering a variety of ages. 

While serving as a coach for the women's basketball team, he will be pursuing a MBA in Sport Management.

Jason will be the Head Coach of the Extended Varsity team as well as serve as an Assistant for the Varsity.

"Jason was our Head Manager at BG and I was drawn to his work ethic and love for the game. I am so excited he chose to come to TU. He has been coaching in the AAU circuit for years and will be a great addition as the Head Coach of our new Extended Varsity program as well as an Assistant for our Varsity team," said Ivey.
