Bench Points Propel Tiffin Past Tigers 63-50

The Tiffin University women's basketball team prevailed 63-50 over Salem International on Saturday afternoon, utilizing 32 bench points and 20 points off turnovers to down the Tigers.

The 1st quarter was a slow go for Tiffin as they managed only 11 points of offense on 27.8% shooting from the field. Tiffin's defense kept it close as they allowed only 13 points to the Tigers.

The Dragons' offense came to life in the 2nd quarter, pouring in 20 points on 53.8% shooting from the field. But even with the hot shooting, Tiffin trailed 20-11 at the 08:22 mark of the 2nd quarter. Tiffin used a 12-3 run to tie the score at 23-23. The bench was extremely important for Tiffin in the quarter, outscoring Salem International's bench 14-3. Ball control played a large part in Tiffin's comeback, scoring 12 points off the Tigers' miscues. Tiffin capped the 2nd quarter with a pair of treys to take a 31-26 lead to the halftime locker room.

At the half Tiffin's bench outscored the Tigers' bench 20-3, and the Dragons held a 16-5 lead in points off turnovers thanks to 15 Tigers' turnovers. Allie Miller led Tiffin at the break, scoring eight points on 3 of 3 shooting from the field.

The Dragons opened the 3rd quarter on a 10-5 run to hold a 41-31 lead with 04:39 remaining in the quarter. Tiffin maintained their lead with great defense, holding the Tigers to 28.6% shooting from the field in the quarter.

The final quarter was wild as the Tigers closed the gap to 47-44, using an 8-2 run to do so. The Dragons traded buckets with the Tigers for the next few minutes, but the game swung Tiffin's way on a Aida Martin made jumper to increase the lead to five with 03:43 remaining. From the 02:51 mark to the end of the game the Dragons outscored the Tigers 8-2, going 8 for 8 from the charity stripe as Tiffin downed the Tigers 63-50.

Allie Miller poured in 19 points as she logged her first double-double with 10 rebounds. Miller was 8 of 12 from the field and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Sarah Cummings was an important player down the stretch for Tiffin, scoring 13 points off the bench and adding eight rebounds and three assists. Aida Martin added 13 points off the bench, hitting 5 of 6 shots from the field. Ali Schirmer added 10 points for Tiffin, and led the Dragons in assists with four.

Tiffin moves to 2-2 overall and will be back in action on November 22, hosting the Indianapolis Greyhounds.
