TU split secures GMAC tourney spot

Tiffin University (22-26, 11-11 GMAC) staged a big 7th-inning comeback to earn a split with Ohio Dominican and secure the fifth-seed in the GMAC Tournament.

The Dragons came back to win 6-4 in game one before falling 11-4 in game two. The win left TU in a tie in the GMAC standings with Ursuline at 11-11, with the Dragons holding the tiebreaker edge for the higher seed.

In the seventh inning trailing 3-2 with two outs, Maddie Woods and Katie Deardorff reached on fielder's choices. Maci Head came through with a clutch RBI single to tie the game. Aubrie Harper followed with another RBI single, as did Kaylee Savage. Kirsten Georges made it a three-run inning with another RBI single as TU held a 6-3 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Sarah Klein finished off the Panthers, ultimately getting the win with 7 innings of work, allowing 4 earned runs.

Tiffin battled back all day. Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, Harper reached on an error at shortstop followed by a Savage walk. Harper then moved to third on a fielder's choice and then came home on a double steal for TU's first run.

In the fifth trailing 3-1, TU got another run when Woods singled and stole second. Kennedy Rorar then doubled to drive her home.

Woods and Rorar both had two hits in the game with doubles.

In game two, Claire Feldkamp had a rare poor outing, allowing 6 earned runs over 1.2 innings of work in taking the loss. 

Trailing 6-0 in the third inning, Deardorff doubled with Taylor Whalen and Woods on board to pick up TU's first two runs.

In the fifth and trailing 8-2, TU loaded the bases on a Woods single, Deardorff walk, and Rorar fielder's choice. Head then singled to drive in a run, with another run scoring on an error at third on a ball hit by Harper.

Head and Georges had two hits apiece, while Deardorff had a double.

TU will now take on Trevecca Nazarene at 10 am on May 5 at Findlay in the first round of the GMAC tourney.
