Tiffin University (10-12) had a come from behind win in the opener against Ashland, posting a 6-5 victory before falling 9-4 in the nightcap.

TU got a run in the first to take an early lead. Kristen Georges singled and came home on Laura Teunion-Smith's two-out two-run home run as TU jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

The Dragons gave up three runs in the second, though and trailed 4-2 heading to the sixth inning.

With two out, Jaelen Kelly walked and Kaylee Savage reached on an error at third base. Faith Renwick then singled to drive in a run, and this was followed by Maddie Woods's big three-run home run as TU took the lead back in dramatic fashion.

Ashland picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth inning but could get no further as they were retired in order in the seventh.

Claire Feldkamp got the win in relief, tossing 3 innings and allowing just one hit and one earned run. Victoria Edwards started and pitched 4 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs.

In the nightcap, TU chased the Eagles throughout the game but could never take the lead. Trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning, Taylor Whalen reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Bailey Fortune's single to make it 3-1.

Ashland picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth and led 4-1. TU picked up another run in the fifth as Brooke Lambert reached on a fielder's choice, Teunion-Smith was safe on an error at third base, Renwick walked, and an error at shortstop on Whalen's grounder allowed a run to cross the plate.

In the sixth inning, TU trailed 4-2 but thoughts of a comeback took a big hit when the Dragons allowed 5 runs and fell behind by 7 runs.

The Dragons still battled in the 7th inning. Georges and Lambert both singled and came home when Whalen hit a two-out single. TU then proceeded to load the bases again as Hallie Sheehan walked and Mallory Phares singled, but a strikeout ended the game.

Shelbey Spurlock started and took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. Sarah Klein tossed 0.2 innings, and Isabella St. Peter finished the game with 3 innings of work, allowing 4 earned runs with 4 walks.

Lambert had 3 hits, while Georges and Whalen also had 2 hits each.
