Bats Quiet as Dragons Swept by Panthers

TIFFIN, Ohio - In what ended up to be Tiffin softball's true home openers after yesterday's games got moved across town, the Dragons were unable to get anything going offensively and fell to Ohio Dominican 2-1 and 9-0.

With the loss, the Dragons fall to 5-3 in the G-MAC and 13-10 overall, while ODU improves to 17-13 on the year and 8-0 in conference.

Across the two games, TU recorded a combined one run and four hits.

In game one, Tiffin starter Sarah Klein matched the Panthers' Sydney Long with four scoreless frames each to start, but ODU was able to plate a pair of unearned runs on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.

Klein went the distance for the Dragons, only allowing the two unearned runs and six hits with three strikeouts. Tiffin tried to rally and get her the win in the bottom of the seventh, getting runners on first and second with two outs. Kaylee Savage came up clutch with an RBI single to cut the deficit to one, but a groundout in the next at-bat ended the inning and the game.

The Dragons were held down again offensively in game two, as Panther starter Cameron Barber went five scoreless innings and gave up just two hits. Ohio Dominican did not experience the same issues, however, breaking out for nine runs and 15 hits to end the game after five frames due to mercy rules.

TU will look to bounce back when they travel south next weekend, taking on Trevecca Nazarene on Friday and Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday.
