Dragons post sweep of Battlers in G-MAC opener

Tiffin University (10-7, 2-0 G-MAC) opened conference play in solid fashion, dispatching Alderson-Broaddus 5-4 in 8 innings in game one and 8-0 in 5 innings in the nightcap.

In the opener, Sarah Klein went the distance, allowing 9 hits over 8 innings while fanning 9 and allowing 4 earned runs.

TU got on the board first, as Sevenish singled, stole second, and came home on Libby Crow's RBI single.

The Battlers tied it with a run in the second and then went ahead 2-1 on a solo home run in the third.

TU rallied for three runs in the fourth inning. Brooke Lambert led off the frame with a homer. Heidi Marshall and Chloe Swaisgood followed with singles. Abbey Zedaker followed with a two-out RBI single. TU threatened to tally more after Gabrielle Hess's single loaded the bases, but a Sevenish strikeout ended the inning for TU.

Leading 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th, the Dragons tried to put the game away but the Battlers rallied. A walk and two singles loaded the bases. A hit batter then forced home one run, and a fielder's choice brought home another run to tie the game at 4-4. With the bases loaded and two outs, Klein escaped further damage by getting a fielder's choice ground out to third base.

In the 8th inning, TU started a two-out rally. Zedaker doubled and came home on Hess's RBI single. Klein took the mound in the bottom of the 7th and finished off A-B 1-2-3 for the win.

Crow and Zedaker led the way with 3 hits apiece, while Sevenish, Marshall, and Hess had two hits each. Overall TU banged out 15 hits.

In the nightcap, Victoria Edwards got the win, allowing just 2 hits over 5 innings while fanning 5.

TU got two more runs in the third. Kirsten Georges walked, and moved up on a sacrifice followed by a wild pitch. Crow then walked, and the Dragons got aggressive, pulling off a double steal leading to Georges crossing the plate for a run. Lambert then walked and went to second on a passed ball, with Crow then scoring on an error by the catcher.

TU broke the game wide open in the fifth. Swaisgood doubled and was joined on the bases by Hess, who struck out but reached on an error at first base. After a Hess stolen base, Chelsey Trusty then walked. With two outs, Sevenish singled home two runs, and Crow gave TU their last three runs with a big three-run bomb.

A-B made 4 errors in the game, allowing 6 unearned runs. TU managed all their runs on just 4 hits, including Swaisgood's double.
