Dragons post wins over Rockhurst, Bellarmine

Tiffin University (3-1) had the offense working in two road victories over Rockhurst and Bellarmine, collecting 22 hits.

The Dragons posted a 7-5 win over Rockhurst and then finished off Bellarmine in the nightcap 5-3. 

The Dragons had 13 hits in the opener with four players getting multiple hits. Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Jamie Sevenish opened with a single and was sacrificed to second. Brooke Lambert then doubled her home to get TU on the board.

TU got two more runs in the 4th inning. Brooklyn Esser and Chloe Swaisgood reached on singles and Chelsey Trusty doubled both of them home to knot the score at 3-3. 

Rockhurst picked up a run in the bottom of the 4th but the Dragons took the lead for good in the 5th inning with three runs. Libby Crow singled and Lambert reached on a fielder's choice. Gabrielle Hess then hit a triple to drive in two runs, and came home herself on Heidi Marshall's RBI single.

Leading 6-5 in the 7th, TU got an insurance run as Hess reached on an error at shortstop, moved to third on Marshall's double and came home on Esser's single to finish the scoring.

Sevenish, Lambert, Marshall, and Esser all had two hits each, with Lambert and Marshall getting doubles. Trusty also had a double  for 2 RBI, while Hess had a triple for 2 RBI.

Victoria Edwards got the pitching win, going the distance and allowing 4 earned runs.

In the nightcap, Sarah Klein got the win, fanning 8 over 7 innings while allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs. She benefited from the Dragons' offense tallying 5 runs before allowing any Bellarmine runs in the 5th inning.

In the third inning, Kirsten Georges singled and was followed by a Lambert fielder's choice. Hayley Kobie then roped a double for 2 RBI as TU took a 2-0 lead.

TU tacked on three more runs in the 4th inning. Esser reached on an E6 and then stole second. Chloe Swaisgood also reached on an error at third, putting Esser on third. TU then pulled a double steal with Esser scoring. Kaylee Savage then singled home Swaisgood, and scored herself on Marshall's RBI double to finish TU's scoring.

Bellarmine got three runs back with two outs in the 5th inning, but Klein settled down, allowing only a single over the final two innings to seal the victory.
