Nearly 250 runners from 10 member institutions will line up on Saturday morning to compete in the 2020 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Tiffin, Ohio.

The women's 6K race will lead things off at 9:30 AM ET and the men's 8K competition will follow approximately around 10:15 AM from Seneca Hills Golf Course.

Plenty of hardware will be up for grabs, including a team championship with the top 7 runners counting towards scores, 20 medals for the all-conference team (top 10 finishers first team) and the traditional runner, coach and freshman of the year, for each gender.

New to the postseason recognition this year is the Great Midwest Elite 23 Award, which mirrors the NCAA's Elite 90, and is designed to honor the highest cumulative GPA (of at least sophomore classification) competing in this year's race. One male and one female competitor will be named as the inaugural winners.

Navigating the tough COVID-19 space, the Great Midwest is one of only five Division II conferences conducting a cross country championship this fall. The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), Gulf South Conference (GSC) and Lone Star Conference (LSC), are the others.

"We are very excited to host this event and provide a special championship experience for these accomplished runners on Saturday," said Tiffin University Athletic Director Lonny Allen. "Collaboratively, as a conference and institution, we have taken many necessary steps to get to this point and our priority remains to continue to protect the safety, health and welfare of the student-athletes this weekend."

Most programs have competed in at least three different cross country regular season events this fall. Tiffin previously hosted the Tiffelberg Meet as a 'championship preview' earlier this month which featured a handful of conference institutions in the field as they became familiar with the loops and terrain.

Nine men's programs and 10 women's squads are entered for competition. Unfortunately, Lake Erie will not be in the field along with Trevecca Nazarene, which announced its withdrawal on Tuesday.

Fans will be permitted to attend through an institutional pre-purchased process for $10 each. Spectators will be asked to adhere to signage placed around the course, which includes social distancing and masking for all spectators in accordance with local and state guidelines. No additional tickets will be sold on site.

Teams will also have their own respective camps near the entrance of the golf course and parking at the facility will be coordinated through Tiffin athletics department volunteers.

For those unable to attend, the races will be streamed by Tiffin on the Great Midwest Digital Network (accessible through the Roku app, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV) with an elevated one-camera setup. The awards ceremony will also be streamed in its entirety. A photo gallery will be made public once the event has concluded.

Assorted championship merchandise will be sold on site. Debit or credit card purchases will be preferred with exchange of currency discouraged.
