Ngandu named All Region, heads to NCAA Nationals

James Ngandu, the 2017 Midwest Region Cross Country champion, will compete for the NCAA Championship on Nov. 18 in Evansville, Indiana.

Ngandu, a two-time Region Champion, was named All Region after winning the regional on Nov. 4. He obliterated the field with a time of 30:11.8, over 1:13 faster than the nearest runner. 

Ngandu will be joined at Nationals by both the Grand Valley State men and women's teams and the Northern Michigan women. Individually, Ferris State's Trevor Holowaty also earned selection. 

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this past weekend.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. 

The championships will be held Nov. 18 in Evansville, Indiana, at Angel Mounds. The University of Southern Indiana and the Evansville Sport Corporation will serve as the co-hosts of the championships. The women's race will begin at 11:15 a.m. Eastern time, followed by the men's race at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.
