Bowers and Burrows Earn Academic All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Tiffin men's track and field standouts Cameron Burrows and Davis Bowers have been named Google Cloud Academic All-Americans, as announced by CoSIDA Wednesday afternoon.

Burrows has earned First Team recognition, and it is his second-straight Academic All-American honor as he was also named to the Second Team last season. Bowers received a nod to the Third Team, and it is also his second such honor as he was a First Team selection in 2018.

The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The awards are given out in four installments in order of the NAIA, NCAA DIII, NCAA DII, and NCAA DI.

The Dragons have two of the three GMAC student-athletes to be named Academic All-Americans this season, as Burrows and Bowers are joined by Malone's George McCartney.

Of the teams that finished in the top five at the national meet in May, Tiffin is the only school to have multiple selections, and Burrows is the only student-athlete recognized on the First Team. Fourth-place GVSU had an athlete on the Second Team, and champion Ashland received a selection on the Third Team.

Burrows, a junior from Sandusky, Ohio, had a stunning 2018-19 season. He earned his seventh All American honor in track and field, finishing 3rd at the NCAA Indoor National Championships and 5th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump. His third place mark also equaled the school record in high jump. He earned five All Midwest Region honors from the USTFCCCA (indoor heptathlon, high jump, long jump, outdoor high jump, long jump), and was also a First Team All G-MAC selection in both indoor and outdoor seasons. He was named G-MAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet and won outdoor championships in the high jump and long jump. He also was G-MAC indoor champion in the high jump. He earned his third consecutive outdoor NCAA appearance in the high jump and was ranked 3rd in the nation. He also sports a 3.81 GPA and is a multiple All Academic selection.

Bowers, meanwhile, made his fifth National Championships appearance in the pole vault and earned his third All-American honor with a sixth place finish. Bowers is a USTFCCCA All Midwest Region selection and was a Second Team G-MAC honoree in the outdoor season. He earned Third Team All G-MAC honors for the indoor season. Bowers also was named G-MAC Field Athlete of the Week earlier this season.
