Dragons take 2nd as Thomas, Baker shatter records

It was another memorable performance by the Tiffin University men's track and field squad as the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded at Ashland, Ohio.

Tiffin finished 2nd overall, trailing only Grand Valley State's 203 points while finishing with 179.5. They also edged out Ashland, which finished with 168.5.

The Dragons set the track on fire in the 100 meter race. Reginald Thomas obliterated the TU and GLIAC record with a blistering time of 10.16, while Jonte Baker also broke the GLIAC mark with a time of 10.20. Both marks hit automatic NCAA qualifying times, as Thomas posted TU's first of six championships on the day.

Mackenzi Rickman also blew out the GLIAC record and hit an NCAA automatic mark in winning the 110 hurdles in 13.87 seconds. Errik Snell was 6th in the same race but still hit a provisional mark of 14.37.

James Ngandu won his second championship of the 2018 outdoor season, taking the 5000 meter race in 15:14.29. Following his win the day before in the 10,000 meters, Ngandu was named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Year.

Nikolas Curtiss won the shot put with a provisional throw of 18.47 meters. Eric Jackson was second in the same event with a provo mark of 17.79. Jalon Monigan got the last TU title of the day, winning the triple jump with 14.93 meters for another provisional mark. Vincent Vogel took second with a provo mark of 14.76 and made an impression in the process, as he was named the Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet after also winning the long jump the day before.

The 4x100 relay team of Boyd, King, Baker, and Thomas also shattered the GLIAC record in winning the title with a provisional time of 40.34.

In the pole vault, Davis Bowers was 2nd with a provisional mark of 5.01 meters, while Cameron Burrows was 3rd with 4.71. Drew Hickman was 4th in the 400 with another qualifying time of 47.71.

Also getting points for TU were Nathaneal Wilson (8th in 110 hurdles), Duane Boyd (5th in 100), Kerwin Jackson (7th in 400 hurdles), Michael King (6th in 200), Stephen Korir (6th in 5000), the 4x400 relay team (5th), Kyle Stump (8th in shot put), and Robert Taylor (6th in triple jump).
