Men's Tennis Competes in Day One of Oberlin Invite

OBERLIN, Ohio - Tiffin men's tennis travelled to Oberlin for the first day of a two-day tournament on Saturday.

Four Dragons went 2-0 on the day in singles. Michael Gurtner won a pair of close matches, defeating his opponents (3-6, 6-4, 10-7) in round one and (7-5, 4-6, 10-5) in round two.

Hugo Chatras and Timothy Richardson earned victories in both rounds of their singles matches with relative ease in straight sets, while Caleb Carter took a 6-3, 6-4 win in round one and then a tight 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 victory in round two.

Dylan Goodman and Logan Sullivan both won their opening singles matches on the day, but fell in round two.

Benjamin Szarek and Nikita Parfenov did the opposite, coming up short in round one but rallying for wins in round two.

In doubles, Szarek and Sullivan were the only pairing to earn a win, defeating their opponent 8-4 in round one.

Gurtner and Parfenov also had an extremely close doubles match, but fell 8-7 (3).

The Dragons will continue action in Oberlin as the invitational concludes tomorrow.
