Soccer program earns Midwest Staff of the Year

Tiffin University's men's soccer coaching staff has been named Midwest Region Staff of the Year by vote of the United Soccer Coaches Association.

Each of the 24 coaching staffs receiving Regional Staff of the Year honors will be recognized at the College Coaches Awards Reception on Jan. 10, 2019 at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago.

In addition, the Regional Staff of the Year recipients will be placed on the United Soccer Coaches ballot for National Staff of the Year consideration within their respective NCAA division. The ballot will also include the addition of coaching staffs from any schools which advance to the semifinals of their NCAA Championship.

Tiffin University's men's soccer team enjoyed a stunning run in 2018, turning heads throughout the season as they rose as high as 12th in the national Division II polls.
 
TU (15-4-1) won the G-MAC Tournament Championship. This followed a regular season conference championship. The Dragons were named the top seed in the Midwest Region tournament, falling in the second round on penalty kicks to eventual national quarterfinalist Ohio Valley.

Rudy Brownell is completing his 13th season as the head coach of Tiffin University Men's Soccer team where he has been the G-MAC Champion once, G-MAC Tournament Champion once, GLIAC Champion twice, GLIAC Tournament Champion 4 times, and has had 4 NCAA Regional Appearances.  

Since taking over the program in 2007, Brownell has a 133-67-23 record. Brownell has led the Dragons to four NCAA Regional appearances in the last five years while also winning championships in seven of the last nine seasons (2 GLIAC regular season championships, four GLIAC Tournament Championships, 1 G-MAC Championship, 1 G-MAC Tournament Championship).

Adam Mitchell is in his first year as assistant coach after serving as a volunteer coach in 2017. A native of Brighton, England, Mitchell played at Notre Dame College (Ohio) where he earned NSCAA All-American honors as a junior along with First Team All-Region accolades that same season.

Nathan Jones is in his first season as the graduate assistant coach for the Tiffin University men's soccer program. Jones, a native of Flintshire, Wales, played four seasons as a starting goalkeeper for the Urbana University men's soccer team and is a 2017 UU graduate (Sports Management). Jones has played one season in the Premier Development League for the Dayton Dutch Lions and was also an assistant coach for the WPSL Dutch Lions team who reached the National Quarterfinals.

Roman Madeline is in his second season as the Director of Soccer Operations for the Tiffin University Men's Soccer program. Madeline, a native of Ohio, graduated from The Ohio State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Industry.
