Big First Half Not Enough at Hillsdale

Big First Half Not Enough at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Tiffin men's basketball opened Saturday afternoon's contest on fire, shooting 60% from the field and 55% from deep in the first half to build a 10-point lead at the break, but Hillsdale's defense locked down in the second period as the Chargers rallied for an 89-77 win.

Three Dragons were already in double figures at halftime, led by 13 points and seven rebounds from Jairus Stevens. Trailing by one, 29-28, with just under seven minutes to play in the period, a Stevens layup ignited a 17-6 run that gave Tiffin a 45-35 lead at the break.

The Chargers quickly erased that lead in the second half, however, scoring the first nine points and 13 of the first 15 to take back the lead at 48-47. Tiffin stayed within one point until the 12-minute mark, where Hillsdale started a 12-4 run to go up by nine.

The margin would remain around 10 for the remainder of the game as Hillsdale picked up their fourth-straight win to keep hold of second place in the conference standings.

Stevens finished with his seventh double-double of the year, recording 20 points and 11 rebounds. Wesley Jordan was very efficient from the floor, making eight of 12 shot attempts for 17 points.

Brevin Brimble also added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Dragons.

Tiffin will play their final game of the 2019-20 season next Saturday when they host Kentucky Wesleyan at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day, honoring senior Austin Schaub and Jarell Taylor.
