TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin men's basketball received career-highs from both Joshua Williams and Austin Schaub as they outlasted Trevecca Nazarene University 100-91 on Saturday evening. 

The win marks the Dragons' first conference victory as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, improving their record to 1-3 in the G-MAC and 3-6 overall.

Williams led Tiffin with 31 points, shooting 10-18 from the field and 8-8 from the free throw line. As a senior, Schaub had his best game in a Dragon uniform, scoring a career-high 18 points on 7-8 shooting (4-5 from deep) while also registering a career-best six rebounds.

Shane Waldon (16) and Austin Adams (15) were also in double figures for TU, while Terell Mabins fell just short of a double-double with nine points and seven assists. Adams also notched his 500th rebound as a member of Tiffin men's basketball in the victory (the senior had 123 in his freshman season at Urbana University for a career total of 623). 

As a team, the Dragons were nearly perfect from the charity stripe, going 19-20 (95%), including 13-14 in the second-half. Tiffin also shot 57.6% from the field in the victory, outrebounded the Trojans 29-25, and collected 42 points in the paint compared to 30 for TNU. 

Trevecca was able to stay in the game almost entirely because of their three-point shooting, as the visitors went 18-33 (54.5%) from behind the arc. Evan Ragsdale was the biggest contributor, tying a Trevecca single-game record with nine made triples on just 11 attempts. The junior also finished 10-14 from the field for 29 points to lead the Trojans. 

TNU started hot, jumping out to a 7-2 lead three minutes in. The Dragons woke up in a hurry, however, scoring the next 12 points capped by an Adams layup to give TU a 14-7 advantage at the 14:37 mark. After a Trevecca bucket, Thomas Hickman nailed a triple to give Tiffin an eight-point lead. 

Trevecca would claw back, however, tying things up at 28 with 7:18 to play in the opening half. Adams countered with a triple, though, and Tiffin was able to hang on to the lead for the remainder of the period as the Dragons took a 46-44 lead into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Deion Johnson gave the Trojans their first lead since the early going with a three-pointer, but the Dragons grabbed it right back on a thunderous Waldon dunk to make it 48-47. Minutes later, Hunter Schmalz came off the bench to drain a triple, and Schaub followed it up with one of his own on the next possession to put TU on top 62-57.

Trevecca responded with back-to-back threes by Jaylon Tharpe to go up by one, but Schaub could not be contained as the senior drained another triple to seesaw the lead back to the Dragons.

However, TNU caught fire, making six of their next eight shots including five from beyond the arc to take a 79-72 lead with 6:41 to play.

The Dragons did not give up, though, as two free throws from Waldon and a spinning, acrobatic layup from Williams cut the deficit to three a minute later. After a Trojan bucket, Williams pulled up from well behind the three-point line and connected to make it 81-79 in favor of TNU with 4:55 remaining. Williams eventually tied things back up at 83 apiece on a pair of free throws at the 3:31 mark, but Tharpe drilled a triple on the other end on the ensuing possession to swing the lead back to Trevecca. 

Tiffin decided that they had seen enough, though, rallying for 11-straight points to effectively end the game. Williams and Adams converted back-to-back layups to regain the lead, before Adams nailed a triple from straightawy that made it 90-86. Schaub then pulled up on the next Dragon possession for a wide-open three in transition to give the home team a seven-point lead with 47 ticks left on the clock. 

From there, Waldon made two free throws and Mabins went 5-6 from the line to put the game away for good and reach the century mark, as Tiffin earned the 100-91 victory.

TU will now have six days to prepare for another tough G-MAC contest, as the 3-1 Cedarville Yellow Jackets come to town locked in a five-way tie for the top spot in the conference. Tip is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.
