2nd Chances Send Salem Past Dragons

The Tiffin University men's basketball team dropped a hotly contested game to Salem University 67-60 on Wednesday evening. A 12 rebound advantage for the Tigers led to an 11-0 lead in 2nd chance points for Salem University.

The Dragons got off to a nice start, using a Justin Miller made three pointer at the 12:05 mark of the 1st half to take a 16-6 lead. The Tigers began their march back a few minutes later, rolling forward on a 10-2 run to trail 18-16. Tiffin's Austin Schaub splashed home a triple a few seconds later to give Tiffin a 21-16 margin. The Tigers laid in wait as the clock crept towards halftime, and pounced when the chance arrived. Salem closed the half on a 10-3 run to knot the score at 26-26 at the midway break.

The Dragons rocked the rim at the start of the 2nd half, seeing Austin Adams, Terrell Mabins, and Quentin Jones hammer home thunderous dunks, giving Tiffin a 33-28 lead. The Tigers once again fired back at Tiffin, prowling ahead on a 15-5 run to lead 43-38. The Dragons didn't back down in the face of adversity, tying the score at 45-45 thanks to a 7-2 run. The Tigers eventually retook the lead, holding a 61-55 advantage with less than two minutes remaining. A quick 5-0 run by Tiffin pulled TU within a point. But the free throw line was the ally of the Tigers as the clock churned towards triple zeros. Salem hit 16 of 17 free throw attempts in the 2nd half as they held on to defeat Tiffin 67-60.

Justin Miller led Tiffin in scoring with 11 points on perfect shooting from the floor and from the stripe. Austin Adams narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 10 points and corralling 9 boards.

The Dragons fall to 6-13 overall.
