Western squad takes Reserve spot at OSU meet

The Tiffin University Western Equestrian Team had a very successful last regular show of the season Sunday, February 24th at Ohio State University.

Competing against Ohio State University, Wilmington College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Hocking College, and Ohio University, Tiffin finished third overall in the morning and Reserve High Point Team in the afternoon show!

In the morning show, Beginner riders owned the ring.  Jacob Strandberg won third place, Arissa Hendershot finished fifth, and Destiny Maruna received second place - qualifying her for regionals and pointing up into the Intermediate I division!  Intermediate II riders Paige McCaslin and Bridget Webber placed fifth in their classes, Alexis Reisner won sixth, and Melody Lozano walked away with second place. Many excellent rides were seen in the Novice division.  Emily Boersen and Kaitlyn Borer had impressive rides, Calysta Herniter and McKenzie Sargent took sixth in their classes, Miranda Bosler finished fifth, and Morgan Lynch earned a fourth place. Competing in the Advanced division, Katie Vogel was awarded fifth place and Lindsay Weiser took home second place.  Open riders Ashley Koszalka and Rachael Dowczek demonstrated wonderful equitation through their horsemanship and reining classes. Dowczek finished third in reining and fifth in horsemanship. Koszalka was awarded second in reining and fourth in horsemanship, earning the title of Reserve High Point Rider for the morning show.  Tiffin University earned third overall for the morning show!

The afternoon show proved to be even more successful.  Jacob Strandberg and Arissa Hendershot, Beginner riders, both took second place in their classes.  Destiny Maruna won fourth in her debut class of Intermediate I. Intermediate II riders Paige McCaslin and Alexis Reisner each finished fourth, Melody Lozano was awarded first in her class, and Bridget Webber demonstrated a very competitive ride.  In the Novice division, Kaitlyn Borer and Emily Boersen had excellent rides, Morgan Lynch earned sixth place, Calysta Herniter placed fourth in her class, McKenzie Sargent took home third place, and Miranda Bosler was awarded second place. Advanced riders Katie Vogel and Lindsay Weiser rode very impressively, taking home second place (Vogel) and sixth place (Weiser).  In the Open division, Rachael Dowczek placed fifth in horsemanship and Ashley Koszalka took fourth. Both riders had excellent reining patterns as well. The team finished as Reserve High Point Team in the afternoon!

This was the last horse show for many of our seniors and we wish them the best of luck as they graduate and continue working toward their goals! The Tiffin University Western Equestrian Team will be competing at their regional horse show on Sunday, March 3rd at Ohio State University!
