The Tiffin University baseball team took two games in the doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan, winning game one 21-9 and game two 3-0.
Game One:
Tiffin got their bats going early as Jake Shier hit a three-run home run to jump ahead early.
The Panthers responded in the top of the second, scoring two runs to cut the Dragons' lead to 3-2. However, Tiffin countered with a three-run rally. Isaiah Mirabal was walked to start the inning, then Marino Pugnetti hit a bunt single, followed by Griffin Stevens single through the left side the load up the bases. The runners scored on a balk by the Panther pitcher, then Tim Orr grounded out to first base to score Pugnetti. Finally, Shier singled to score Stevens to increase their lead to 6-2.
After a scoreless third inning, Pugnetti homered in the bottom of the fourth to give Tiffin a 7-2 lead.
Kentucky Wesleyan rallied in the top of the fifth as they started the inning with a home run and went on to score five more runs, tying the game at 7-7.
Tiffin responded with a five-run inning of their own. After Shier led off the inning with a single, Cal Brazier doubled to right center to score Shier, then Nich Green singled to score Brazier, making it a 9-7 game. After a pitching change TJ Truso walked, Mirabal then laid down a sacrifice bunt that put the runners in scoring position on second and third. Zach Campbell flied out to center field to score Green, then Pugnetti singled through the left side to score Truso. The Dragons loaded the bases up again to force the second pitching change of the inning, who walked Shier to complete the five-run inning giving Tiffin a 12-7 lead.
Tiffin added one in the sixth as Campbell reached on a fielder's choice that scored Truso from third to lead 13-7. The Panthers hit a homer in the seventh to bring the score to 13-8.
The Dragons scored eight more runs in the seventh inning off four hits, one error, and six walks to take a commanding 21-8 lead. Kentucky Wesleyan hit another home run in the eighth but the Dragons' offense overpowered the Panthers to take a 21-9 win.
Shier went 3-for-4, scored three runs, and tallied five RBI, Cal Brazier went 3-for-5, scored two runs, and recorded four RBI and Zach Campbell was 3-for-5, scored two runs, and registered three RBI.
Scotty Adelman recorded the win as he pitched 2.1 innings, allowed one run on two hits, and struck out one. Tyler Wehrle started the game, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, and fanning seven.
Game Two:
Both pitchers pitched well as there were only eight hits total in the game. The Dragons scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead and that would be the only scoring that would happen in the game.
In the third, Danny Donnelly started the rally with a single, then Zach Campbell was hit by pitch, and Pugnetti was walked to load up the bases. Griffin Stevens hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Donnelly. Tim Orr singled to score Campbell from third, and Jake Shier singed to score Pugnetti to lead Kentucky Wesleyan 3-0.
Jake Shier went 1-for-3 with one RBI, Tim Orr went 1-for-3 with one RBI, and Griffin Stevens went 0-for-2 with one RBI.
Michael Boswell pitched his third complete game of the year as he shut out the opponents, pitched 7.0 innings, allowed five hits, and tallied nine strikeouts.
