Boehm Throws Gem As Dragons Blow Past Storm in Doubleheader

The Tiffin University baseball team went 2-0 against the Lake Erie Storm, winning game one 17-7 and game two 12-0.

The Dragons improve to 10-11 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Storm fall to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Game One:

The Storm started off the game strong, hitting a home run after three batters to take a 3-0 lead. The Dragons responded with a two-run bottom of the first to cut the lead down to 3-2. With two outs and a runner on second, Tim Orr singled through the right side to score Marino Pugnetti. The next two batters were walked to load the bases, then a passed ball scored Orr from third to cut the lead to 3-2.

Tiffin added two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead over Lake Erie. With runners on second and third, Pugnetti singled to right field to score Evan Engle and Zach Campbell to lead 4-2 over the visitors.

In the sixth inning, the Dragons scored four runs. Griffin Stevens sparked the rally as he hit an RBI single with the bases loaded, then a passed ball allowed another run to score, Orr followed that with a single to score Pugnetti, and Isaiah Mirabal grounded into a double play but brought home Stevens at third to give the Dragons an 8-3 lead.

Tiffin's offense didn't let up as they scored four runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth to hold off the Storm's two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Marino Pugnetti led the offense as he went 3-for-5 at the plate, scored four runs, and had seven RBI, Tim Orr went 4-for-6, scored one run, and tallied four RBI.

Francisco Olivarez recorded the win as he came in relief for Alan Meadows and pitched 5.1 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, and struck out six.

Game Two:

The Dragons' defense stood tall as they handled the Storm, winning 12-0.

Tiffin took a 1-0 lead early in the bottom of the first, as Tim Orr singled through the left side allowing Stevens to score from second.

TU put up six runs in the bottom of the second as Danny Donnelly doubled to start off the inning, TJ Truso walked, and Pugnetti was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Campbell was walked with the bases loaded, followed by Stevens getting hit by a pitch to go up 3-0. Next, a wild pitch scored Pugnetti, and Orr hit a sac fly to bring Campbell in from third to lead 5-0 to force a pitcher change. Cal Brazier faced the new pitcher first and hit a 2 RBI double to score Nich Green and Stevens, giving Tiffin a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Dragons scored two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to lead 12-0.

Tim Orr went 2-for-2 at the plate, scored one run, and registered four RBI, while Cal Brazier went 1-for-4 and had two RBI.

Gunnar Boehm pitched a gem, going 6.0 innings on the mound, allowed three hits, and tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts.
