Boswell Pitches Gem as Dragons Take Two Over Ohio Dominican

The Tiffin University baseball team won three of the four games against Ohio Dominican.

The Dragons improve to 8-11 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Panthers fall to 6-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Game Two

The Dragons started the game well with two runs in the top of the first inning. At the top of the order, Jake Shier singled to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Griffin Stevens reached on a fielders choice, putting runners on the corners. Nich Green hit an RBI single up the middle, scoring Sheir. With the bases loaded, Danny Donnelly stepped up to the plate and was hit by a pitch to advance the runners, scoring Stevens.

Ohio Dominican responded with a three-run second inning to lead 3-2. The Dragons responded with a home run from Cal Brazier to tie the game at 3-3. The Panthers scored two more in the bottom of the third to lead 5-3.

Tiffin cut down the host lead in the fourth starting with a double from Thomas Auth and followed by a Shier single to left field to cut the lead to 5-4.

The Panthers caught fire in the fifth as they scored six runs to take an 11-4 lead over Tiffin. The Dragons scored two more in the sixth inning, but could not overcome the lead the Panthers built and won 12-6.

Jake Shier led the team going 3-for-3, scored two runs, one RBI, and stole one base, Cal Brazier had a multi-hit game as well going 2-for-4, scoring one run, and an RBI, and Nich Green went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Kyler Archual took the loss as he pitched 4.0 innings of the seven-inning game, allowed five earned runs on five hits, and struck out three.

Game Three

Michael Boswell pitched a complete seven-inning game in the 5-2 win over ODU in game three of the four-game series.

The Dragons grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the first inning as Isaiah Mirabal hit a double to score both runners.

After three scoreless innings, the Panthers got on the board to cut the lead to 2-1.

Tiffin responded with a three-run fifth inning, starting with a Shier single down the left side. Stevens singled to the right side to send Shier home from second base. Tim Orr pinch hit for Nich Green and hit a monster two-run homer to give the Dragons a 5-1 lead over the host.

ODU scored one in the bottom of the seventh but great pitching from Boswell held off the Panthers and Tiffin took the 5-2 win.

Boswell pitched well as he pitched 7.0 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, and registered 10 strikeouts.

Isaiah Mirabal led the offense as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, Tim Orr went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and recorded two RBI, and Jake Shier went 2-for-4 and scored one run.

Game Four

After four scoreless innings, the Dragons scored four runs in the fourth inning, starting with three walks to load the bases, then Shier was hit by a pitch to score Mirabal. Next, Tommy Thamann was walked to bring in Zach Campbell, and then Stevens hit a single through the left side to score two runs to complete the four-run inning. The Panthers scored one run to cut the lead to 4-1.

Tiffin added to their lead in the sixth when Tim Orr hit an RBI single to left-center that scored Thamann from second to take a 5-1 lead. The Panthers responded with two runs in the bottom of the six to cut the lead to 5-3.

Tiffin added one more in the eighth to seal the 6-3 win over Ohio Dominican.

Tim Orr went 3-for-6 at the plate and one RBI, Griffin Stevens batted 2-for-5, scored one run, and two RBI, and Jake Shier went 1-for-4, scored one run, and had one RBI.

Tyler Wehrle pitched 7.0 innings in the win, allowed three runs on six hits, and struck out three. Logan Swonger registered his third save of the season as he pitched a hitless inning and struck out two.
