Dragons Claim 8-1 Win Over Northwood

The Tiffin University baseball team won 8-1 in their season opener over Northwood. A four-run fourth inning for the Dragons was the difference. 

The Dragons improve to 1-0 on the season and give the Timberwolves their first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1. 

The Dragons opened the scoring in the third inning as Marino Pugnetti doubled to right field then Kyle Vance homered to right field to score two runs. 

Northwood got on the board in the fifth inning as Kin Singled to center field, then Jeffers doubled to right field putting runners on second and third. A Longstret fly out allowed Kin to score and Jeffers advanced to third. 

The Dragons countered with four runs in the fourth inning. Northwood walked three players and hit one to score one run before changing pitchers. Then Griffin Stevens hit a single to center field to score Pugnetti from third and Vance from second and advancing Zach Campbell to third. The Dragons scored one more run on a passed ball advancing Stevens to second and Campbell ran home and scored. 

Tiffin extended their lead in the eighth inning as Nich Green hit a home run to right field bringing the score to 7-1. Shier reached first on an error and advanced to second, then reached third on a wild pitch. Next up, Pugnetti singled to left field bringing home Shier from third.  

Michael Ross got the win for the Dragons, pitching five complete innings, allowed four hits, one run, and struck out five. The bullpen consisting of Gunnar Boehm, Logan Swonger, and Peyton Clift held Northwood scoreless the rest of the game to seal the 8-1 win for Tiffin.

Kyle Vance led the offense batting 2-for-4, two RBI, scoring two runs, and hitting one homer, teammate Griffin Stevens also went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Marino Pugnetti batted 2-for-4, recorded two runs, and had one RBI.
