Heckman Receives GMAC Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced the baseball weekly awards for the week spanning Apr. 29-May 5, and Tiffin's John Heckman has been named the Player of the Week.

Heckman led TU to a 3-1 series win at Walsh, clinching a berth in the conference postseason tournament as the seven-seed in the Dragons' first season in the GMAC.

Over the four games, the right fielder batted .500 (9-18) with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, and seven runs scored. He also struck out only once in the 18 at-bats.

Heckman had two hits in each game as TU split with the Cavaliers on Friday, including a home run and three RBI in game one. He saved his best performance of the week for the final game on Saturday, going 4-5 with a homer, four RBI, and two runs scored.

On the season, Heckman leads the Dragons in at-bats (174), hits (60), home runs (8), RBI (48), and slugging percentage (.603). He is also second in batting average (.345) and doubles (17).

He currently holds a 10-game on-base streak, including eight of the last nine with a base hit, and will look to carry that momentum into the postseason as the Dragons will open the tournament with two-seed Ohio Dominican on Wednesday at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
