Dragons Swept by Panthers to Open Series

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Tiffin baseball fell in a pair of games against Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday by scores of 14-2 and 6-3.

The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played in Tiffin, but forecasted rains in northwest Ohio forced the Dragons and Panthers to relocate to Kentucky for the series. Despite that, TU was still considered the home team for both contests.

Tiffin fell behind early in game one, as KWC took a 3-1 lead after one inning of play with TU's run coming on a Nich Green RBI single.

A nine-run third inning would give the Panthers an 11-run advantage, though, and the Dragons were unable to get very much going offensively the rest of the way. John Heckman launched a solo homer to left in the eighth, but no more runs came across as Kentucky Wesleyan won 14-2.

Heckman finished with two hits in the contest, while Christian Magill came out of the bullpen to throw a solid five innings of long relief, only allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six.

Game two began as a duel from the mound, as Dragon starter Tyler Wehrle and Panther starter each blanked the opponent through three frames.

KWC broke through for five runs in the fourth, however, and would add one more in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.

TU was able to get the offense going in the bottom of the sixth, as Brayden Callihan, Zach Campbell, and Heckman recorded back-to-back-to-back doubles for two runs. Green followed with his second RBI single of the day as the Dragons split the deficit in half at 6-3.

That would prove to be the final score, as Tiffin drops to 13-13 in GMAC play, clinging to the eighth and final GMAC postseason berth with six games to play in conference action.

The Dragons play two more in Owensboro tomorrow before closing out the season with four games at Walsh next weekend.
