Dragons Edge Battlers in Game One, Settle for Split

PHILIPPI, W.Va. - Tiffin baseball outslugged Alderson Broaddus 12-11 in game one on Saturday before falling to the Battlers 12-3 in game two.

After today's games, the Dragons move to 7-9 in the GMAC and 10-22 overall.

TU piled up runs early in game one, as after not scoring in the first inning the Dragons put crooked numbers on the board in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth frames. Three runners crossed the plate in the second as Kole Klasic notched an RBI single, Brayden Callihan a sacrifice fly, and Cody Orr another run-scoring single that put Tiffin up 3-2.

Tiffin put up another three-spot in the third as Colin BeDell recorded an RBI double and Klasic picked up two runs this time with a single. Four more Dragon runs came through in the fourth, including Klasic registering an RBI for the third-straight inning with a bases-loaded walk.

Up 10-5 after those four innings, the Dragons and Battlers each scored two runs over the next two frames to make it 12-7. Still up by four heading into the bottom of the ninth, Tiffin had to hang on tightly at the end, as Alderson Broaddus' Amedure hit a three-run homer to cut the lead to just one with nobody out. Michael Ross was able to settle things down and get three-straight outs after a single to earn the save, though, as TU held on for the 12-11 win.

Klasic finished 2-4 with a walk and four RBI in the contest, while Orr also went 2-4 and had a pair of RBI.

Game two was a different story for the Tiffin offense, as they struggled to figure out Battler starter Zach Salmon, who went six shutout innings before allowing three in the top of the seventh.

Aaron Gonzalez, Zach Campbell, and Jack Dennis picked up the RBIs in that seventh inning, but it was much too little, too late as Dragon pitching allowed 12 runs and 15 hits to the Battlers.

Tiffin and Alderson Broaddus will wrap up the series with games three and four tomorrow starting at noon.
