TIFFIN, Ohio – Tiffin baseball erased a trio of one-run deficits in game two to win 6-5 and split with the University of Findlay after falling 4-3 in game one.
After Wednesday's contests, the Dragons are now 6-20 overall and 3-7 in the G-MAC.
In game one, Tiffin was able to get to Findlay starter Tyler Rendlesham in the top of the first, pushing two runs across on a John Heckman RBI single and Jack Dennis RBI groundout.
After setting down the Oilers in order in the first, Dragon starter Cody Orr got in a jam in the second with one out, hitting two batters and allowing a single to load the bases. A fielder's choice drove in a run, but Orr was able to hold Findlay to just the one run and keep Tiffin in the lead.
Findlay struck again in the top of the third though, taking a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brayden Callilhan reached base on a bunt single with one out. Cody Orr was next to bat, and helped his cause on the mound with a double to deep left center that scored Callihan all the way from first to tie things up at three.
Neither team was able to take the lead through the next three innings. In the top of the ninth, Findlay reclaimed the advantage as Alex Foulks homered to left for a 4-3 lead. The Dragons got a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but could not score as Findlay took game one.
Findlay opened up the scoring in game two with a run in the top of the second. Tiffin answered right back, though, as in the bottom of the inning Nich Green recorded an RBI groundout and Noah Penney followed with his first collegiate home run to give the Dragons the lead. Before the inning was over, Orr came through with an RBI single to put TU up 3-1.
The Oilers took the lead back over the next two innings, though, scoring three runs including Foulks' second homer of the day. Their lead would not last long for the second time in the game, as Colin BeDell laced an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score at four.
Dragon starter Gunnar Boehm managed to get two outs with a runner on in the top of the fifth, but a bases-loaded walk a few batters later gave the Oilers back the lead and brought in Michael Ross from the bullpen.
Ross needed just one pitch to end the inning, getting Derrick Herd to ground out to second, limiting the potential damage.
For the third time in the contest, Tiffin was able to come from behind, quickly loading the bases with one out. Heckman came through clutch with an RBI single to tie things at five, before Jack Dennis picked up the go-ahead RBI on a sacrifice fly to right.
Ross then worked around an Oiler hit in both the sixth and seventh innings without allowing a run to pick up his first win of the season on the mound as the Dragons earned the 6-5 victory.
Tiffin will continue their homestand with four games against conference opponent Hillsdale this Saturday and Sunday.
