Dragons Hang On Late, Knock Off Pioneers

MASSILLON, Ohio - Three Dragon pitchers combined to shut out Malone University over the first eight innings, and Tiffin baseball was able to hold on for a 4-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Gunnar Boehm took the mound first for the Dragons, going three innings and giving up just two hits and a walk. Jacob Boyd followed with two innings of no-hit ball and a pair of strikeouts and would eventually be credited with the win, the first of the freshman's collegiate career.

Aaron George then stepped in and worked the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings and allowed only three hits while also striking out three.

TU got on the scoreboard in the third inning as Colin Bedell crossed the plate on a Pioneer error and Zach Campbell recorded an RBI single to put the Dragons up 2-0.

Tiffin added a run in the eighth on a Kole Klasic RBI single, followed by a fourth score in the top of the ninth as Jack Dennis knocked an RBI single of his own that would prove to be the difference in the game.

Malone was able to rally for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Tiffin managed to record the final out before the Pioneers could tie or take the lead, earning the 4-3 win.

Pioneer starter Tyrus Jones was also strong on the bump, going seven innings and not allowing an earned run.

BeDell finished with three hits and a run scored, while Campbell recorded an RBI and his seventh multi-hit game in 13 outings this year.

Despite facing a conference opponent in Malone, the game will not count towards G-MAC records, as the Pioneers are not one of the eight teams that the Dragons are scheduled to play as part of the conference rotation this season.

Regardless, Tiffin will look to build off the win as they jump back into conference action this Friday and Saturday for a four-game series at Cedarville.
