Dragons Swept by Panthers in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tiffin fell just short in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Ohio Dominican, falling 5-4 in eight innings, before dropping game two to the Panthers 13-6.

With the wins, ODU swept the conference-opening series over the Dragons.

Cody Orr had a great day at the plate for Tiffin, going 5-8 with three runs scored and four RBI across the two contests. He also got the start on the mound in game one, going seven innings while allowing four runs on six hits with six strikeouts, but received a no-decision after ODU broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth for a walk-off win.

Tiffin got on the scoreboard first in that opening game as Henry Delgado knocked in Nich Green with an RBI single in the top of the second. ODU responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but the Dragons tied things back up at two with a Zach Campbell RBI single in the top of the third.

TU grabbed the lead two innings later, as Orr laced an RBI triple to left center. One batter later, Colin BeDell poked a single through the left side to put Tiffin up 4-2. The Dragons would load the bases before the inning was over, but could not push across any more runs and took a two-run lead into the bottom of the fifth.

The advantage did not last long, unfortunately, as the Panthers notched their second two-run homer of the game to tie things up at four.

The sixth and seventh innings proved to be scoreless on both sides as the teams went to extras. Tiffin could not get anything going in the top of the eighth, and ODU managed to record a two-out RBI single to walk off with the 5-4 win.

In game two, errors stung the Dragons early, as the Panthers scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first. TU's offense battled back in the top of the second though, as two walks and a single set the table for Orr, who roped a bases-clearing double down the left-field line to even the score at three.

Ohio Dominican broke the tie with a run in the bottom of the second, but Tiffin came right back with a Green RBI single to knot things up at four in the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers pushed across two runs to again take the lead. The Dragons would not go down quietly, though, tying the score for the third time in the game as Campbell knocked an RBI double to right center and BeDell scored on an error later in the frame to make it 6-6.

The bottom of the sixth spelled trouble for TU, however, as the Panthers tallied seven runs on five hits and two errors, including a three-run homer. The Dragons were able to load the bases in the top of the seventh, but did not score as Ohio Dominican took the 13-6 win.

Tiffin will look to regroup when they travel to Malone for a single game Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Conference play resumes next Friday and Saturday at Cedarville.
