Ashland Pulls Away from Tiffin in Late Innings

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Ashland University scored eight runs across the seventh and eighth innings to defeat Tiffin baseball 11-4 on Sunday morning.

The Dragons got on the board first as John Heckman laced a two-out RBI single to right in the top of the first that scored Zach Campbell.

The Eagles tied things up with a run in the bottom of the third, but Tiffin came back with three in the top of the fourth as Campbell and Heckman opened the frame with back-to-back doubles, Heckman scored on an error, and Kole Klasic came up with an RBI single later in the inning.

Ashland cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the inning, but the Dragons were able to maintain a 4-3 lead through six innings, thanks in part to Cody Orr's five strong innings in the start on the mound as he gave up three runs on just four hits.

The Eagles were able to get to the Tiffin relievers, however, as they scored five in the seventh and three in the eighth to take the seven-run win.

Campbell, Heckman, and Kyle Vance each registered three hits on the day and combined for nine of the Dragons' ten hits. Heckman also had two RBI and Campbell a pair of runs scored.

Tiffin will look to get back in the win column tomorrow when they face Northern State at 10:30 a.m.
