Dragons Open Spring Break Trip Against Malone

Dragons Open Spring Break Trip Against Malone

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Tiffin baseball held a 4-1 lead through three and a half innings, but a six-run bottom of the third by Malone University led the Pioneers to a 14-4 win on Saturday.

Freshman Jacob Keene led the Dragons with two hits and an RBI on the day, while fellow first-year player Kole Klasic added a hit and a pair of RBI for Tiffin.

After a run by Malone in the bottom of the first off Dragon starter Jake Monnin, TU responded in the top of the third as Jack Dennis knocked an RBI triple to right to tie things at one apiece.

That momentum carried into the top of the fourth, as Nich Green led off with a walk and was brought home by a Keene single one out later to put Tiffin on top. The Dragons quickly extended their lead, as one batter later Klasic belted a two-run shot to left to give TU a 4-1 advantage.

The Pioneers came alive in the bottom of the inning, though, scoring six runs on five hits with one error as they went up 7-4.

The Dragons were unable to solve the Malone relievers throughout the rest of the game, and the Pioneers added seven more runs over the final five frames to take the win.

TU will continue their spring break swing with another Ohio opponent tomorrow as they face Ashland at 10:00 a.m.
