CINCINNATI, Ohio - Tiffin baseball was made it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh, but Wayne State was able to add two more runs and hang on for a 9-6 win to sweep the three-game series over the Dragons.
Tiffin outhit Wayne State by a significant 11-5 margin, but four errors and four hit batsmen helped the Warriors to overcome their lack of hits.
Wayne State got on the board right away with three runs in the first off Dragon starter Tyler Wehrle. Tiffin came back with one run each in the second and third, though, on a fielder's choice and a Kyle Vance sacrifice fly.
The Warriors extended their lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth, but John Heckman cut the deficit back down to one with an RBI triple in the bottom of the frame.
Wayne State was able to build their lead to 7-3 across the next three innings, with all three runs coming on sacrifice flies.
In the bottom of the seventh, though, the Dragons had an opportunity with the bases loaded and one out. Henry Delgado came in to pinch-hit, and knocked a clutch two-RBI single to right. A Colin BeDell single loaded the bases again, and after the second out, Brayden Callihan was able to draw a walk to push across another run and make it 7-6 in favor of the Warriors.
A groundout to third would end the inning and the threat, though, stranding three Dragons on the bases.
Wayne State added a pair of runs in the top of the eight, and Tiffin left two runners on base in the eighth and went down in order in the ninth as the Warriors took the game and the series sweep.
The Dragons will regroup with a couple of days off before heading down to Florida for Spring Break, opening with Malone on Saturday, March 2 in Winter Park, Fla.
