The Tiffin University baseball team dropped their series opening game against Grand Valley State 13-3. The Dragons were neck-and-neck with the Lakers until the 7th and 8th innings struck. The Lakers scored 10 of their 13 runs over the course of the two innings, collecting seven hits in the process.

Tiffin got on the scoreboard first, pushing a run home in the 2nd inning. A bunt single by John Heckman, and a wild pitch moved the Dragons' catcher into scoring position. Heckman scooted home on a Lakers' error to give Tiffin a 1-0 lead.

Tiffin struck again in the 3rd, using a walk, a hit, a wild pitch, and sacrifice bunt to do so. A walk to Brayden Callihan and single by Alec McCurry put two runners on for Tiffin. A wild pitch enabled both runners to advance, and a Kyle Lento bunt allowed Callihan to stride home and give Tiffin a 2-0 advantage.

An inning later the Dragons were back up to their old tricks, but this time it only took one swing of the bat to net a run. Jack Dennis walloped a solo home run to right field to push Tiffin's lead to 3-0.

That would be the last run for the Dragons, as the Lakers scored 13 unanswered runs, using four home runs, three doubles, and a triple to push those 13 runs to the plate.

Michael Boswell took the loss on the mound, tossing six innings while surrendering six earned runs.

Game two of the doubleheader was called due to darkness in the 6th with the Dragons leading 3-2. The game will resume tomorrow prior to the start of games three and four.
