It was an offensive explosion for Tiffin on Tuesday, cranking out 23 runs in the two game sweep. Tiffin took game one 9-3 and game two was called one out into the 8th inning due to darkness with Tiffin winning 14-9.
Game One
Luke Fraley trotted to the hill in search of win number five, and received run support from the get go. Alec McCurry singled home a run to start the scoring, and Devon Fisk collected a run batted in with a ground out to make it 2-0 Tiffin. Tiffin cracked the bats again in the 2nd, plating two more runs on three hits. Kurt Barbeau drove home a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0, and Kyle Lento doubled home Kyle Durham to give Tiffin a 4-0 lead.
A solo home run pulled Lake Erie a run closer in the 3rd, but Tiffin rang the bell themselves in the 5th. Alec McCurry smacked a towering drive down the left field line to give the Dragons a 5-1 advantage. The Storm hit another dinger an inning later to move within three runs.
In the bottom of the 6th Tiffin put the game on ice, scoring four runs on five hits. Lento singled home Jack Dennis, and Alec McCurry kept his career day going with a bases loaded double, clearing the bases and giving him five runs batted in.
Lake Erie added a run in the 7th, but that was it as the Dragons took game one 9-3.
On the mound, Fraley earned the win, allowing four hits and two runs over six innings of work. At the plate, Alec McCurry finished 3 for 4 with a double, home run, and five runs batted in. Kyle Lento also turned in a 3 for 4 day with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Jack Dennis was perfect at the plate going 3 for 3 with two runs scored.
Game Two
If you thought game one was packed with offense, game two was a knock down drag out at the plate with the two teams combining for 23 runs and 37 hits.
Tiffin kept the merry-go-round rolling in the bottom of the 1st, plating four runs on five hits and two errors. Jay Smith knocked in the first run with a ground out to second base. McCurry kept being clutch for Tiffin, collecting another RBI with a single to right field to score the second run of the frame. Brayden Callihan reached on an infield single, and an errant throw allowed another Tiffin runner to cross the plate, and Jack Dennis picked up a run batted in with a single to left field to give TU a 4-0 edge.
Tiffin opened the door for Lake Erie in the top of the 2nd, allowing the Storm to score three runs on three hits and two errors. In the bottom of the 3rd, Callihan gave Tiffin some breathing room with a run scoring single, and Lento plated a pair with a sharply hit single to center field to give Tiffin a 7-3 lead.
The Storm thundered back in the next half inning, scoring three runs to cut Tiffin's lead to 7-6. In the 4th, Tiffin doubled down with five two base hits and four runs to up their lead to 11-6. Lake Erie answered back with three runs in the top of the 5th to trail 11-9.
Kyle Durham plated a run in the bottom of the 6th to make it 12-9, and Barbeau followed him with a run scoring hit to give the Dragons a 13-9 advantage. The final run of the game came courtesy of Kyle Lento's sacrifice fly to give Tiffin their 14th run of the game.
The game was called due to darkness one out into the 8th inning, with the Dragons taking the win in a completed contest 14-9.
Hunter Carson earned the win in relief with an inning of work. At the plate, Tiffin had numerous stars. Callihan finished 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Devon Fisk chalked up a 3 for 5 day with three runs scored, Dennis added three hits, two runs batted in, and two runs scored, and Kyle Durham finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
The sweep moves Tiffin to 20-17 overall and 12-8 in GLIAC play.
