Krieger's gem earns TU split with 22nd-ranked Indy

Tiffin University (12-12) got a masterful performance from Ricky Krieger, as he twirled a two-hit gem in beating 22nd-ranked Indianapolis 5-0 to earn TU a split on the road. TU dropped the opener 7-5.

In Krieger's outing, he tossed 5 innings, walking 3 and fanning 6. He maintained a slim lead, exiting the game with a 2-0 lead. 

In the first inning Kurt Barbeau singled and Isaac Perry followed with a bunt single. Jay Smith was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, with Barbeau then scoring on Devon Fisk's ground out to short.

TU got another run in the fourth inning, as Kyle Lento singled, was sacrificed to second and then moved to third on a passed ball. He then motored home on Jack Dennis's sacrifice fly.

TU got important insurance runs in the 7th inning, as Perry singled and Smith was hit by a pitch. Alec McCurry then singled for an RBI and was followed by another single and RBI by Fisk. After Lento singled, Kyle Durham walked to load the bases. Dennis then drew another walk to plate TU's fifth run.

Kevin Borst tossed the final two innings, allowing one hit to earn the save.

Lento and Perry led the Dragons with 3 hits, while Barbeau and Dennis getting a pair of hits apiece. Fisk also drove in 2 runs.

Iin the opener, the Greyhounds jumped out early, getting four runs in the second and three more in the fourth. Indianapolis benefited from two walks followed by two singles to get their first run. Another single drove in two runs. TU stumbled again in the fourth inning, as an error and a walk was followed by a three-run home run to put the Greyhounds up big early.

Deylen Miley lasted only 1.1 innings in allowing 4 earned runs, but was followed by solid bullpen work from Chad Phenis and Nate Brunty. The duo combined for 4.2 innings of work, allowing only 2 earned runs as TU mounted a comeback.

In the fifth inning, Smith doubled and was driven home by Ryan Thomas's single to make it 7-1.

In the 7th inning, Luke Brust drilled a pinch hit home run. TU then rallied, as Barbeau singled followed by a Perry double. Smith then singled to drive in a run. Ryan Davis then walked to load the bases, and Devon Fisk followed with a single and RBI to bring the tying run to the plate with no outs.

Jack Dennis brought in another run but did so while hitting into a critical double play to make the score 7-5. Pinch hitter Kyle Durham then struck out to end the game.

Barbeau had 3 hits to lead TU, while Smith and Lento had 2 hits with a double. Perry also had a double.
