Dragons Drop Season Series With Gannon

The Tiffin University baseball team split with the Gannon Golden Knights on Thursday afternoon, winning game one 7-3, and falling 5-3 in the series finale. The Dragons were defeated by the Golden Knights earlier this week 8-6, dropping the season series 2-1.

Game One

Tiffin's offense started early in game one, plating two runs in the 2nd inning with a hit, a wild pitch, and a Gannon error. Leading 2-0, Tiffin kept the carousel spinning the next inning, scoring four runs on four hits and an error. After loading the bases with a Ryan Thomas walk, Isaac Perry quickly cleared them with a double to center field. Kyle Lento's single later in the inning plated Perry to put Tiffin ahead 6-0.

Another Dragon crossed the plate in the 4th to make it 7-0. Devon Fisk singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jay Smith picked up an RBI with a single to left field, scoring Fisk.

Tiffin starter, Max Dakin, cruised through his start, pitching five innings, allowing four hits, and an earned run. The Golden Knights plated single runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th inning, but Tiffin prevailed 7-3.

Offensively, Tiffin collected 10 hits and five walks. Individually, Devon Fisk and Jay Smith led the charge with three hits each. Isaac Perry was the run producer for the Dragons, finishing 2 for 3 with three runs batted in.

Game Two

The Dragons sent Hunter Carson to the mound in search of the sweep, but Carson was greeted rudely by the Golden Knights, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk.

With the Dragons trailing for the first time all day, Tiffin made light work of Gannon's 2-0 lead. The Dragons scored two runs on three hits and an error. Back to back singles put runners on the corners, and a Gannon error allowed Alec McCurry to score. Isaac Perry provided some two out magic with a run scoring single to tie the game at 2-2.

Gannon responded in the 4th and 5th innings with three runs to lead 5-2. After a one out walk in Tiffin's half of the 5th, Ryan Thomaspulled the Dragons a run closer with a double to center field. The Dragons were shutdown in their final two at bats, falling 5-3.

On the mound, Carson took the loss in five innings of work. At the plate, Tiffin finished with seven hits, with Alec McCurry being the lone Dragon with multiple hits.

Tiffin sits at 5-6 overall, and will finish their Florida trip tomorrow with an early morning game against Wheeling Jesuit University.
