Tiffin athletics to be honored by International Fair Play Committee

The International Fair Play Committee, an affiliate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will recognize Tiffin-area athletic directors, coaches, and sports captains for their collaborative and sustained effort in promoting sportsmanship and fair play.

Tiffin University, Calvert Catholic Schools, Tiffin City Schools, and Heidelberg University will be recognized at the Festival of Champions on Tuesday, October 23 in TU's Heminger Center beginning at 5:15 p.m. Participants being recognized are asked to arrive by 5 p.m.

Additional groups to be recognized include commissioners, coaches, and players from Cal Ripkin baseball; Babe Ruth baseball; Ponytail softball; Seneca football; Biddy wrestling; Best of the Best basketball; Black Swamp volleyball; adult softball, volleyball, kickball and disc golf; and YMCA and Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) sports.

Sunil Sabharwal, U.S. secretary general for Fair Play Americas, will bestow the joint honor to Tiffin University and the City of Tiffin during the Festival of Champions.

Elite Sport and Culture Week, hosted by National Machinery, Mercy Health, Terra State Community College, and Tiffin University, features over 20 Olympians representing 12 countries on four continents who will share their personal experience and the core values of the Olympics at 32 local schools.

The Festival of Champions is an all-ages community event featuring free food, entertainment, and over two thousand giveaways. Activities include "Dancing with the Olympians," "Race the Olympian," a basketball shoot-out competition, and "Minute-to-Win-It" games. The public can participate in free fitness challenges, wellness programs, and sports activities. Youth art, cultural activities, and academic posters featuring Olympic themes will be featured in the lobby.
